Blondie Topped Brownies

I finally got to make these! I saw a picture of these on CakeSpy a while back, and was amazed. Brownies... and Blondies? In one? Like, together? Heck yes!

It's like a dream come true, the best of both worlds.

Blondie Layer, do you see the pattern?

The bars in all of their baked glory.

And chocolate, too? Wow, I don't think these could get any better!

I'll take two...

... or five... five sounds nice.

Blondie Topped Brownies
(Adapted from Smitten Kitchen, Craving Chronicles, and Cakespy)

Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 heaping cup sugar
2 eggs
3/4 cup dark cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 tablespoon vanilla
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Blondie Layer:
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Prepare a 11 x 13 pan.
2.  Fro the brownies, melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat, add the sugar. Return the butter mixture to the heat briefly, just until it’s hot, but not bubbling.
3. In a separate bowl, crack 2 eggs and beat them with the cocoa, salt, baking powder, and vanilla until smooth.
4. Stir the hot butter mixture into the egg mixture until smooth, add the flour. Let this mixture cool in the fridge for 20 minutes.
5. For the blondies, melt the butter. Beat the butter and brown sugar until smooth. Add the egg, vanilla, and salt and stir until blended. Slowly add in the flour until all is incorporated. Place in the fridge.
6. Once the mixtures have cooled, add 1/2 cup chocolate chips to each of the batters. Stir to combine.
7. To make the first layer, scoop the brownies batter into the bottom of the prepared pan and smooth. Top with the blondie batter to make the second layer. Smooth again.
8. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean. Cool. Drizzle with melted chocolate.
